NPOV tag in Massachusetts Institute of Technology
[edit]Please do not remove this tag, which was inserted by [[User:Solitude|Solitude\talk]], until the neutrality of the article has been discussed at Talk:Massachusetts Institute of Technology by all interested parties, and consensus reached. Image copyrights
[edit]I noticed that you uploaded several images to the MIT article, and I'm concerned that you are inaccurately describing their copyright status. For example, you described Image:MIT.gif and Image:MIT-brassrat.jpg as being "licensed under the terms of the Wikipedia copyright" when they most certainly are not GFDL.
Please realize that, if you find an image somewhere on the web, by default it is not licensed under terms usable by Wikipedia, unless you find an explicit statement to the contrary. (And even in this case you should link to the source of the image and to its license statement.)
You also uploaded several images copyrighted by "Jackson Frakes". I have marked these as "unverified" because of your other copyright confusions. Can you give us more information about where you got them and why you believe them to be usable by Wikipedia? (Are you Jackson Frakes?)
—Steven G. Johnson 15:42, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for confirming that you are Jackson Frakes (on User talk:Stevenj). I've fixed the images you uploaded to indicate that Jackson Frakes is you and to tag them with GFDL. In the future, please indicate this information on uploads of your personal photos, as it is otherwise impossible for us to tell.
- The only two remaining problematic images are Image:MIT-brassrat.jpg (which is not a logo per se; it looks like an image from a catalogue and is arguably not fair use) and Image:MIT-stata.jpg (a professional photo by Richard Sobol, arguably a copyright violation and certainly not GFDL). (The burden of proof is on you to argue fair use - note that fair use is a very narrow exception to copyright law and does not apply to most images.)
- PS. Please do not erase your Talk page, which is important as a history of disputes and other information. (Unlike your user page User:MITalum, the talk page is not solely for you to control.) —Steven G. Johnson 22:30, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)
MIT Alum Directory
[edit]Being naturally curious and an MIT alum myself, I looked up Jackson Frakes in the MIT Alumni directory...but didn't find anyone. Are you listed under a different name? Or did you just choose not to be listed? --Zamfi 05:52, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
I appreciate your recent edit...
[edit]...in which you trimmed some gratuitous peacock feathers from the first paragraphs of the MIT article... specifically the word "leading" and the phrase "many prominent." Thanks. Dpbsmith (talk) 16:24, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Take a look... what do you think? Dpbsmith (talk) 23:09, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Analysis Group
[edit]I have nominated Analysis Group, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Analysis Group (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. AfD nomination of Martha Samuelson
[edit]An editor has nominated Martha Samuelson, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Martha Samuelson and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
A more inclusive wiki for bios
[edit]Hi MITalum, I saw that a bio article you created is is currently under review for deletion. You may wish to consider transferring it to Wikipopuli, a wiki that hosts biographical articles and does not impose a notability requirement. Best, TheYellowCabin (talk) 01:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Harvard-MIT-coop.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Harvard-MIT-coop.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:04, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Ronald L. Turner
[edit]A tag has been placed on Ronald L. Turner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello MITalum! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Richard L. Schmalensee - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Milen Veltchev - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- John Carrington Cox - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
