[edit]

Hello! I didn't know where else to put this... :-)

I'm Angela from Knol. I saw your comment on the bulletin board--I'm a co-author.

I have to warn you, at Knol, we're a little anti-Wikipedian. In fact, we usually call wikipedia users "bureauc(rats)." No offense to you, of course--it's just a small joke.

But welcome to knol. I will have to ask the team, but if you would like to join the Bulletin Board, you are very welcome. If you're interested in Knol, you should also join the KAF (Knol Author Foundation).

There are fundamental differences between Wikipedia and knol, namely "an informative article" being a matter of opinion, and the user is in full control of their article.

So happy knolling!

Hi - you have added a template to the talk page of the Wikipedia:Community Portal. According to the project-page this must be a mistake: it is not on your list of articles that are supposed to have this template, and vice versa, it says on the project page that only articles on this list are supposed to have a template. So I will remove it for now. (The community portal is the main page of wikipedia for those who are not just readers.) Other than that: interesting project, many sociology-articles absolutely need to be improved. --Fenice 20:35, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computer_science is now open and looking for a founder and core members.

(please respond here ^^^)

Once a WikiProject's page has been created, now comes the hard part—filling in all the different sections and trying to turn the WikiProject into a functioning group instead of the all-too-many dead-on-arrival WikiProjects that fill up Wikipedia:WikiProjects. I am still populating the Southern California WikiProject, but so far only a few people have signed on to the project. I'm hoping that at the SoCal meetup in a few weeks that I'll be able to get a few more people interested. BlankVerse 04:37, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject_Culture

[edit]

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Culture and Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Culture opened at the same time from two completely separate people that were working independantly.

I was finishing the table for Template:WikiProject_Wikiportal for Wikipedia:WikiProject_Wikiportals architecture task. Both the project and the portal links for the Culture topic were red when i left the template to go drop the newly revamped Template:WikiProject onto a blank Wikipedia:WikiProject_Culture page.

I gets back to the table to check if the link went blue - it did - and so did the Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Culture Link!!! Timalsameously! I thought that was kwite kewl. But then again, I'm easily entertained :) Quinobi 9 July 2005 07:27 (UTC)

template:WikiProject

[edit]

Since I have recently created two new WikiProjects (California and Southern California) and am going to try to get the currently dead-in-the-water Templates WikiProject jump-started, I figured that I would try to copy and/or adapt some of the additions and deviations from the template:WikiProject that I've liked in successful WikiProjects and add them into the new WikiProjects. Since I was doing that, I figured that I might as well as add those additions to the WikiProject template at the same time so that others might also be able to take advantage of those ideas. BlankVerse 4 July 2005 20:48 (UTC)

I'm glad you did - nice thoughtful work! I'm going to write an article for the Signpost under the new WikiPraxis column I'm starting to maybe help generate some excitment and participation in an overhaul of WikiProjects, which I want to give the mematic name - WikiProject Central. Is that too corny? Hopefully, also we can make a sort of subportal to place on the Community_portal with that same name or a better one. see the discussion on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Community/Strategy and let me know what you think. Memphis Sound

[edit]

I'm working on an article The Memphis Sound and associated Aticles: Mar-keys, Don Nix, Duck Dunn and others... Some, I thought may criticize me for writing about a relative in an encyclopedic context. Silly me. I've found that nobody seems to mind, care, comment, or even notice, so that's that. I'll do what i think is right. I have fond memories of visiting Stax at it's peak. See Talk:Stax_Records On second thought, don't.

Question about the Mar-keys/Mar-Keys page

[edit]

Hi, late last night I stumbled on the "Mar-keys" page while doing some research on other articles. I added a discography to the stub you started. I looked at several Mar-Keys album covers via graphic scans of the covers shown at allmusic.com (although I do have at least one of their albums in my collection too) because I thought your spelling looked odd. I saw that all of them but one spelled it "MAR-KEYS" so that it was hard to tell the right capitalization for regular text until I found the Damnifiknow/Memphis Experience double reissue cover, which spelled it "Mar-Keys." I then proceeded to try to use the Move tab to move the page from Mar-keys to a Mar-Keys page. I think I did it incorrectly somehow because now there are two pages for the band with different spellings instead of one.

I also have just now discovered that you noted "this is the right spelling" in the edit History for the original Mar-keys page stub. Before I take further action by asking an administrator how to correctly merge the two pages into a single Mar-Keys entry, I would like to first make sure we agree I am right about the spelling since you seemed to have some reason for spelling it the way you did. Please advise. Nice to meet another person interested in Memphis music. Bebop 19:36, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)Bebop

I concur that the spelling should be Mar-Keys. I'm not sure how to move a page either, but yes, it's nice to find another Memphis music fan! Quinobi 13:48, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I think they took care of it per a request I put up. Glad to know you are ok with all that. I was afraid I'd learn I made a mistake. Thanks for the reply. Bebop 19:14, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Fact and reference check

[edit]

Hello, many people want to move forward with the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Fact_and_Reference_Check project instead of waiting for 'smart' footnotes to be coded into MediaWiki. The first step is agreeing upon a formatting template used to fact check new articles. Several candidates are up for vote, and everyone is encouraged to vote and/or submit their own proposal. Comments on proposals are also very much welcome.

Thanks for your interest in our project, I hope you will vote :o). --ShaunMacPherson 10:19, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Voting has officially begun

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed that you voted before it had officially started, so I just wanted to remind you to review the proposals again if you want- since it counts now. We didn't get a proposal for the tooltips idea, as suggested on the talk page. While I am not sure of why, I think it's most probably because it isn't default for all users, so only a few people will appreciate it. There is another proposal that allows for multiple references per footnote, but only one footnote per sentence. This will reduce clutter. -[[User:Frazzydee|Frazzydee|]] 04:57, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Biweekly special article

[edit]

Dear Fact and Reference Check member,

After many months, the biweekly special article has been brought back! The article we will be referencing is Titan (moon). Please do your best to help out!

I'm asking all members to verify at least three facts in the article, and I'd really appreciate it if you could try and help with this. We have about 19 members, so if even 3/4 of us try and fulfil this 'dream', that'll be 45 references!

If you need some information on how to use footnotes, take a look at Wikipedia:Footnote3, which has a method of autonumbering footnotes. Unfortunately, they produce brackets around the footnotes, but it seems to be our best alternative until they integrate the footnote feature request code into MediaWiki. You may be interested in voting for the aforementioned feature request.

Cheers,

Wikipedia research

[edit]

Hey there Quinobi, thanks for your message on my talk page. Sorry if it's taken me a little while to reply to you, I've been doing a lot of paper reading and working on my project plan (5000 words for a 20,000 word topic), so I though I'd start posting about academic stuff once I'd revamped my research page, which I did today take a look if you're interested. I'm getting a lot cloer to an idea about what I want to write about, although the difficulty at the moment is finding the books - tracking down Ted Nelson's stuff is proving to be an absolute nightmare, and Pierre Levy isn't much easier - I suppose this shows that there needs to be a lot more academic work on the subject, so I'm taking it as a good thing.

I've got a lot of ideas regarding your topic 'Is the term community worn out', so i'm going to take a look at Wikidemia now, thanks again for your message, and hope to have more discussion at some point.illWill 7 July 2005 16:44 (UTC)

The paper is looking great! Let me know if I can help. I'm tracking you on Nelson and Levy. Got Ciffolilli pinned to the board though I believe.
I've started on Wikidemia - NotReady-forPrimeTime version and an encyclopedic review of Phantom authority. I hope to get ALL the Wikidemians working on these "objective" self-references that may just be OK to put in the main namespace.

garbage tag in scope for wikiproject

[edit]

You put a garbage tag around a certain portion of the scope section in WikiProject Bangladesh. I am not sure why this was needed or what it was intended for. Would you mind explaining a bit? -- Urnonav 03:34, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I actually removed some garbage that was in the scope portion left there by the old template. Back before I knew what was going on, I inadvertantly placed irrelevant content on the template rather than on the WikiProject I was creating. The template carried the irrelevant content to a whole range of WikiProjects that used that template. The list ofeffected projects is on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject. Sorry for the confusion. Does this explain, OK? I was trying to repair some damage I caused. The WikiProject Bangladesh looks to be coming along well. Quinobi 04:10, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Yeah I know how it feels to go switch a whole lot of things back. Thanks for the comments on our projects. Hope we can do some good work for our wiki-community here. -- Urnonav 04:39, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Quinobi - thanks for your message, and for your work on my current questionnaire's talk page - I had noticed that yesterday and was going to drop you a note. I've had very poor feedback from it though - have you pointed anyone to it at all? However, the note on my talk page you responded to was actually about a questionnaire for a previous study which you can see here. I got good responses for that one but this was, I think, because I targeted active contributors directly by email rather than simply pointing to it from the Village Pump or the mailing lists, which is what I did for the current one. You'd maybe also be interested in the m:General User Survey and its questionnaire. I'll have another look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Community, when I'm a little less busy with Wikimania and my dissertation - it's right up my street! Will I see you at Wikimania, by the way? Little context in Traction component

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Traction component, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Traction component is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Traction component, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Quinobi! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 16 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

A tag has been placed on Traction component requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. -CamT|C 21:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article SchoolForge has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article does not demonstrate topic's notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:25, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Ultra-conservative listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Ultra-conservative. Since you had some involvement with the Ultra-conservative redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 02:54, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MfD nomination of Portal:Community

[edit]

Portal:Community, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Community (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Community during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:05, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
